About
A late starter, Shelly began playing the violin with Cathy Amundsen at the age of 11 in the Crowsnest Pass. At 14, she began studying with Bill van der Sloot and at 20 with Lorand Fenyves (Royal Conservatory of Music). She teaches beginner to intermediate classical violin as well as old-time fiddle music and has six years of teaching experience. She has recently begun Suzuki teacher training.
While her classical training provided her with great enjoyment and experiences such as touring eastern Europe with the Calgary Youth Orchestra, Shelly's found her performance niche in modern (pop and country) music. She is a member of Calgary band Axis of Conversation and has appeared on CDs by Brooke Wylie, Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, and Reuben Bullock. She still plays classical music in Capriccio Group and subs in with the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra.
Shelly holds Diplomas in Music Performance from Mount Royal College (Calgary) as well as the Glenn Gould School (Toronto). She received her Bachelor of Music from Thompson Rivers University (British Columbia).
